Shanghai World Expo 2010 Holland Pavilion

A report from the World Expo.
Since the opening on May 1st, the World Expo in Shanghai attracted already more than 27 million visitors. The organization expects a total of 70 million visitors by the end of October. Every country of the world is represented with a national pavilion showcasing their culture and history.

Together with the Province of South-Holland and the City of The Hague, the WFIA has organised a number of seminars at the Dutch Pavilion about developments in safety and security, Traditional Chinese Medicine, water technologies and red and white biotech in The Netherlands. From the Province of South-Holland Vice-Governors Asje van Dijk and Lenie Dwarshuis led a delegation of Dutch scientists and companies interested in cooperation with Chinese counterparts.

The visit to the World Expo has been successful with many guests attending the Holland seminars. The main objective was to target companies considering entering the European market. As a result two companies showed their interest in WestHolland by signing a Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) with Dutch officials. An MOU is an official document stating the intention of future cooperation. Mr. Liu Wu Xiong, Vice President of The China International Travel Service (CITS) signed an MOU with Leonard Kok, Director of urban planning of the city of The Hague. CITS intends to open a visa center in The Hague to accommodate the increasing amount of Dutch tourists to China. The second MOU was signed with Yangzte River Group. Mr. Xu from Yangtze River Group signed with Vice-Governor Asje van Dijk of the province of South-Holland and Nettie Buitelaar, Director of leiden Bio Science Park, to confirm a Joint Venture with SU Biomedicine in Leiden.
