Extensive Infrastructure

The WestHolland region has an extensive network of international transportation by air, high speed rail and road. Because of its central location  major cities like Amsterdam, Brussels, Frankfurt, London and Paris are all accessible within a few hours.

With Schiphol Airport and Rotterdam-The Hague Airport at only 20 minutes away, the accessibility to major cities around the world is perfect. Schiphol Airport is a major international passengers hub and in 2011 was voted the “Best Airport of Europe”.

International trains (Thalys, ICE) to Belgium, France and Germany depart several times a day from The Hague Central Station (CS) and The Hague "Hollands Spoor" (HS). A New European High Speed Rail project (HSL) is currently under construction and will connect the WestHolland region to the Trans European High-speed train network. WestHolland - London will then only take 3 and half hours and Barcelona 7 hours. At 300 km an hour this provides an excellent alternative to travelling by car and even air.

The national rail-road network in the Netherlands is extensive. The so-called "Inter-cities" service all major cities 2 to 4 times an hour. Smaller cities are serviced 2 to 4 times an hour by the so-called "Fast- and stop trains".

The recently completed transportation network in WestHolland, The Randstad Rail, connects the local tram and metro networks of the cities of The Hague, Zoetermeer and Rotterdam by Light Rail. This will make the existing public transportation system even more flexible and efficient.
