Social impact startup YAPILI opens headquarter in The Hague

YAPILI wants to increase access to healthcare for more people worldwide The Hague.

Social impact start-up YAPILI is coming to The Hague. YAPILI is a peer-to-peer platform aiming to link people in need of health advice, especially in developing countries, with doctors worldwide by means of its online platform. This way, people no longer have to travel long distances, wait in long lines, or pay high fees for health advice, which is often the case in low- and middle-income countries. YAPILI adds to the growing number of social impact companies in The Hague.

Team Yapili – Sherzel Smith (Health Officer), Inge Degutyte (Technical Officer), Willem Sparreboom (Software Developer), Mindaugas Kaziulis (Project Manager, Gleb Samoilov (Marketing & Communications).

“Initially we were thinking of Germany or Belgium when choosing the headquarters for YAPILI. However, possible partnerships, the broad network and growth in social impact businesses here in The Hague made this decision easy”, says one of the founding members, Mindaugas Kaziulis.

The Hague as impact city: a natural choice
The city of The Hague supports initiatives as YAPILI through their ‘Impact City’ programme. In The Hague, international city of peace and justice, tens of thousands of people are working on resolving the social and global challenges of our time. Every day and in many ways, they are building solutions that work.

YAPILI’s impact
YAPILI creates direct impact on healthcare by creating easy accessibility to health advice and potential follow-up by connecting its users to registered physicians online, thereby reducing first consultation costs. It also expands the field of knowledge for healthcare bodies by using real-time data for monitoring and prevention. It helps with improving data quality and analytics, which contributes to better global health. And YAPILI knows that better health means improved outcomes in all sectors.

YAPILI is gearing up for the testing phase of its platform in the peer-to-peer as well as Software-as-a-Service settings. The startup is actively looking for early adopters of the service: users, licensed physicians as well as healthcare providers.

Reliable partners
Transforming how the world connects for cross-border advice and processing privacy-sensitive data such as medical records, YAPILI demanded reliable partners in the tech, health & legal sectors, all well presented in The Hague. The WestHolland Foreign Investment Agency assisted YAPILI by facilitating partnerships that provide access to legal advice, big data analytics, market research, innovation support, and a community of international organisations.

About YAPILI
YAPILI was formed in November 2014 after six entrepreneurs met in East Africa during an incubator program with the German NGO Ampion. They found that low availability of doctors, not only in rural areas, but even in cities, prevented from seeking advice early and keeping track of medical records. The doctor-to-patient ratio in Sub-Saharan Africa is only 1 to 10,000. To put this in perspective, in the Europe this ratio averages to 40 to 10,000. In addition, the problem of emigration of intelligent, well-educated local doctors in Africa added to the issue of limited access to healthcare. The solution to this problem was ultimately found in a user-friendly online platform. Be amongst the first ones to try it out. Visit Yapili to learn more and see how you could get involved.
